Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of skid steer loader operations without attachments including:

conducting prestart checks prior to commencing operations and shutdown procedures on completion of operations

carrying out vehicle refuelling requirements and procedures

working safely around other machines and personnel

demonstrates completion of conducting skid steer loader operations without attachments that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

driving, manoeuvring and operating skid steer loader smoothly, adjusting operations for the work environment conditions

performing skid steer loading tasks which must include a minimum of one (1) of the following on each occasion:

stripping/spreading topsoil and materials

backfilling

loading vehicles

excavations

mixing materials

site clean up

compacting

truck excavation

lifting and carrying materials

cutting batters and benches

using communication systems to confirm activity, correct path and process to safely move and transport load
